Can Amad Diallo Rise to Glory by Following Ronaldo’s Footsteps?

In a tumultuous season marked by injuries and managerial upheavals, Manchester United's Amad Diallo stands out as a beacon of potential. Despite a challenging campaign, one former Premier League star believes that the young Ivorian needs to adopt a certain legendary player's work ethic to reach his full capabilities.

Eboue urges Amad to emulate CR7
Emmanuel Eboué believes Amad Diallo must become physically stronger to succeed at Manchester United.

Former Arsenal and Ivory Coast defender Emmanuel Eboué has urged the 22-year-old winger to take a leaf out of Cristiano Ronaldo's book, particularly in maintaining his physical condition. With Diallo missing portions of the season due to injury, notably an ankle injury suffered in February, his potential has often been curtailed by his availability, or lack thereof.

Eboué's sentiments reflect a broader understanding of what it takes to excel in modern football. "I love Amad — he’s like a younger brother to me. He’s a very good player, but his problem is that he picks up too many injuries," Eboué said. "As a young footballer, you need to be available every week, but with Amad, it’s often one or two good months, then he’s out again.”

Diallo’s journey since joining Manchester United from Atalanta for an initial fee of £19 million has been fraught with ups and downs. After a series of loan spells — most notably at Sunderland where he thrived — he returned to United aiming to establish himself under Erik ten Hag. His efforts culminated in a standout FA Cup quarter-final winner against Liverpool, which became one of United's memorable moments last season.

Despite the disappointing league performance this year, with reports stating the club could finish as low as 17th, Diallo's contributions were promising — prior to injury, he netted nine times and assisted eight in 36 appearances. His return to training arrives at a crucial time for United, who suffered a significant setback with a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Eboué continues to advocate for Diallo, emphasising the importance of mental and physical resilience in achieving longevity in football. He reflects on Ronaldo's remarkable career as an example of how diligence and self-care can lead to success: "When I watched Cristiano Ronaldo, it was rare to see him injured. He looked after himself and worked unbelievably hard — and he’s still doing that now, even at 40.”

As Manchester United fans await Diallo’s return, they hope that he can not only regain his form but also build his physicality to match the high standards set by legends of the game. With his natural talent evident, the key question remains: is Amad ready to embrace the rigours of top-flight football and emulate the journey of his idol?

As the season approaches its climax, Manchester United will be looking to maximise Diallo's potential. Will he seize this opportunity? Fans are encouraged to leave their thoughts and opinions as we follow this compelling story unfolding at Old Trafford.
