Arsenal Plot Record-Breaking Double Raid On Milan’s Top Attacking Stars

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to launch a sensational transfer offensive this summer, setting their sights on Inter Milan’s prolific Lautaro Martinez and AC Milan’s dazzling Rafael Leao. With the Premier League giants eager to bridge the final gap in their title pursuits, these audacious moves could reshape their attacking arsenal—if, of course, they can convince two of Serie A’s brightest stars to swap Italy for London.

The urgency behind Arsenal’s plans stems from a challenging season plagued by injuries to Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Bukayo Saka, which have severely limited Mikel Arteta’s options upfront. Despite the memorable Champions League victory over Real Madrid, concerns linger that lacking a true world-class number nine remains the Achilles’ heel to their ambitions. Arteta himself expressed frustration at the club’s inactivity in the January window, hinting that this summer may require more decisive action.

According to multiple Spanish reports, the Gunners are willing to obliterate their club record with an eye-watering €150 million (£129m/$165.6m) bid for Lautaro Martinez. This figure would eclipse the £105 million splashed out on Declan Rice in 2023, underlining just how much Arsenal value the 27-year-old Argentine, who has blasted an impressive 148 goals in 323 games since joining Inter in 2018.

Nevertheless, prising Martinez away won’t be easy. Just last August, he signed a five-year extension tying him to the Nerazzurri until 2029. More tellingly, he recently stated to Sky Italy: “I would gladly play for Inter my whole career… I renewed my contract over the summer, deciding to stay. I wake up every morning eager to get on the training field. My family is happy here, too.” These heartfelt words signal deep loyalty, casting doubt on whether even a record-breaking deal could tempt him.

With that uncertainty, Arsenal are also looking across town at AC Milan’s Rafael Leao. The 24-year-old Portuguese winger has been on the cusp of a big move for years, especially as Milan have struggled this season. Reportedly contributing to 19 goals across all competitions, the explosive forward could inject badly needed creativity and pace on Arsenal’s left flank, particularly with Raheem Sterling set to return to Chelsea after his loan spell fizzles out.

Sources suggest Leao is a top alternative to Spain’s Nico Williams, whose transfer could prove too complex or costly. What’s clear is that pairing the Portuguese winger with Martinez would create one of Europe’s most formidable front lines—and send a powerful statement of Arsenal’s intent to return to the very summit.

Arsenal’s spending spree might not stop there. Their shortlist reportedly also features Napoli’s star striker Victor Osimhen, valued at around €65 million (£55.7m), who is eyeing a move either within Serie A with Juventus or to the Premier League, where Chelsea and Manchester United also circle. Others linked include Turksih wonderkid Arda Guler of Real Madrid, available for a more modest €30 million (£25.6m). The club clearly recognises that bolstering both centre-forward and wide attacker roles is vital for the next stage of Arteta’s project.

And yet, amidst all the gigantic sums and speculation, Arsenal will face tough questions: Can money alone overcome player loyalty and competition from rivals? Is breaking records the silver bullet to toppling Manchester City’s dominance, or does this mega shopping spree risk the kind of disruption big-money moves sometimes induce?

One thing’s certain – this summer could redefine Arsenal’s trajectory for years. Fans worldwide will be watching eagerly: Will the Gunners finally get the finishing pieces to transform promise into glory?
