The True Wealth of RHOP’s Karen Huger—And How Much Her Husband Is Worth

Karen Huger, the self-appointed “Grand Dame” of The Real Housewives of Potomac, has built her reality TV brand on her wealth and social status. The franchise started in 2016 and followed the highs and lows of a group of women living in Potomac, Maryland.

After nine seasons, Karen is rumored to have quit the reality show, skipping the reunion to go to rehab after being found guilty of a DUI. According to multiple sources, including Reality TeaKaren Huger has an estimated net worth of $10 million in 2024. Aside from appearing as an OG cast member on RHOP, Karen has multiple business ventures.

Much of Karen’s luxurious life comes from her marriage to tech company founder Ray Huger. She married the “Black Bill Gates” in 1996 after meeting him at a formal event. She told The Daily Dish in 2022, after celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary, “He is my best friend. He’s my rock. And he is my inspiration too.”

Karen has been candid about how she and Ray built their life together and that he was not a multi-millionaire when she met him. “I don’t think you’re going to find a millionaire under a rock. It doesn’t happen like that. But you don’t disqualify a man because he doesn’t have financial means initially,” Karen explained to The Daily Dish. “I truly believe in each partner building the other. Ray’s built me. I’ve built him. And we’re better for it.”

Karen Huger’s $10 million net worth is estimated as her earnings, investments, and properties are private.

Although Karen has made her own money, thanks to her Bravo fame, a significant amount of her fortune comes from her husband.

The “Grand Dame” of Potomac is married to Ray Huger, a successful tech entrepreneur the RHOP star calls the “Black Bill Gates.” Ray is reportedly worth $40 million, some of which Karen has taken credit for. She told Bravo in January 2016 that she “nudged him along in the right direction.”

You have to build a millionaire, help him become a millionaire, help yourself become a millionaire.

The mother of one continued, “I think if you go out there with the agenda of ‘looking for a millionaire’ you may not find him, but you may find the qualities and the necessary tools in place. You just have to nudge him along in the right direction.”

Reality Tea reports that Ray Huger started his career at IBM and spent 25 years working as an Area Staff Director and Regional Manager. He then founded his own leading technology consulting firm in 1991. He expanded his company to become a leading player in the tech world, reportedly reaching over $60 million in annual sales.

According to Ray’s LinkedIn, his business helps commercial companies and government organizations “prevent, prepare for, successfully manage, and fully recover from a variety of weather-related and man-made business disruptions.” His firm went public in 2004 and was later acquired by CACI, a government contractor.

Inside Karen Huger’s Businesses

Aside from her reality TV appearance, Karen Huger has started her own business. ScreenRant shared that she developed a perfume called LaDame Fragrance, which was sold at Bloomingdale’s and on The Home Shopping Network (HSN). Karen has appeared on HSN to promote her scents.

“Well, ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be in the beauty industry,” Huger explained to Us Weekly in December 2019. “You know everyone gets dressed in the morning, they put on their earrings, but a fragrance is the last touch that gets me prepared for the day.”

She later expanded the brand to include candles and oils. “To whom much is given, much is expected, so I’ve done four-wicks [candles] — I’ll let you know if I’m going to do five,” Karen told a fan at BravoCon 2023, according to The Daily Dish.

2:02   ScreenRant also reported that her candle line became controversial when her RHOP co-star Wendy Osefo spoke about launching her own candle line. While Wendy launched her Onyi Home Essentials Company with a one-wick, Karen tried to one-up her by announcing a three-wick candle.

Karen appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and explained to the host why three-wick candles are better than one. “La’Dame lights the way so you don’t bump into walls in the middle of the night,” she said, per The Daily Dish. Wendy later added four, five, and seven wicked limited-edition candles to her line.

She also teamed up with her hairstylist, Steven Thomas, to create a line of wigs. The line, which is a collab with RPG Show, promises to have every style you are looking for, whether it’s a “100% human hair short and sexy look or a long and luxurious style.”

During Season 3 of The Real Housewives of Potmac, news broke that Ray Huger owed money in back-due federal taxes. A report from The Washington Post revealed that the businessman owed almost $1.5 million in back-due federal taxes, and his company owed more than $3 million.

The third season of the Bravo show frequently covered their tax issues, with Karen claiming she had no idea about her husband’s financial situation. The stars of RHOP questioned if the tax issues were why the couple sold their Potomac mansion for $1.685 million, nearly one million less than the listing price, and downsized their home in Season 2.

“We didn’t know what we were gonna do, how we were gonna make it. I thought the world was coming to an end,” Karen told The Daily Dish in 2018. “But he assured me that everything was going to be OK, as long as I stayed in my lane. And that’s what he meant, too. Let him handle it. It’s his business.”

However, despite the scandal, Huger has put it behind her and her husband has taken care of his taxes. “He has settled, and they have a deal, and they’re good,” Huger told The Daily Dish. “So we’re in a great place, and I’m grateful. I’m grateful that Ray’s my hubby. I’m grateful that my kids are my kids. And I’m grateful that I still have great health to enjoy this life.”

In 2018, Karen told Bravo that all their financial business was settled. She announced on WWHL that she is “still debt-free and loaded in gifts of many ways.” She later told The Daily Dish, that she had found the positives in the situation. “We all got closer. And the Huger clan, we’re here to stay.”

“We’ve been tested, but we stood. And we’re still standing. And I like it. I think we’re better for it, to be honest. We know what’s important in life, and now what really isn’t. I like being spoiled, but I love the reality check. I’m a different woman.”
