“RHOSLC” Season 5 Teases Explosive Drama with Mary M. Cosby’s Return to Expose ‘Utah’s Biggest Liar’

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is back!

After breaking the internet with its standout fourth season finale, the hit installment of the beloved Bravo franchise is returning for a fifth season, premiering on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The network dropped a trailer for season 5 on Monday, Aug. 19, teasing what’s to come between stars Lisa Barlow, Heather Gay, Angie Katsanevas, Meredith Marks, Whitney Rose and Mary Cosby — an original cast member of the series who will join the action once again as a full-time Housewife.

Cosby previously quit the show after season 2 and refused to show up to the reunion after comments were made from her costars about her controversial church. She returned in season 4 as a Friend, telling executive producer Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that she came back “to help you guys out.”

Also joining the group is new Housewife Bronwyn Newport, a longtime friend of Barlow’s who “arrives in couture with her over-the-top fashion and a sense of humor as sharp as the diamonds she wears,” according to an official Bravo release.

Like many of the Salt Lake City Housewives, she has a history with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having been raised Mormon. She was later excommunicated from the church when she got pregnant out of wedlock while studying at the prominent Mormon institution, Brigham Young University.

While some new Housewives sometimes struggle to find their way in, Newport “makes a splash with the ladies with her outrageous, fabulous and confrontational style.” But Gay may not be on board.

“Bronwyn is not here to make friends and I don’t trust her,” Gay says in the trailer, before confronting her for telling everybody in the group “a different story.”

In the mix, too, will be two news Friends: Britani Bateman and Meili Workman.

Bateman, introduced into the group by Gay, is described as “a Utah native, practicing Mormon, real estate developer, actress and accoladed singer in an on-again, off-again relationship.” She’s said to “bump heads with a few of the ladies from the jump.”

Workman, on the other hand, is a pal of Rose’s. Originally from California, the model and mother of four was “raised LDS and moved to Utah to be more involved in the church, but ultimately decided that the faith was not for her.”

Missing is Monica Garcia, the single mother of four who made a memorable impact in season 4.

PEOPLE exclusively broke the news in January that she was departing the series. The news dropped hours before the airing of the dramatic third part of the reunion, where Garcia was confronted about the fact that she was one of the people behind RealityVonTease, an Instagram troll account that’s had a history of posting negative things about the RHOSLC stars.

That revelation broke in the record-breaking season 4 finale, where Gay — in a now iconic quote — indicated she had “receipts, proof, timelines, screenshots” regarding Garcia’s bad behavior.

While Garcia won’t be part of the action this season, the trailer teases plenty of drama to come, including a major conflict between Barlow and Katsanevas after Katsanevas seemingly knocks Barlow for letting her son “sit and game until 2 in the morning.”

“She’s talking about my parenting?” a frustrated Barlow asks Gay in the preview. “I’m a great mom. That’s a low blow.”

“I don’t think you’ve been a good friend to me lately,” Barlow later tells Katsanevas, who stands and claps back, “You’ve been a f—ing bitch to me!”

Barlow is also feuding with Rose, calling her a liar to Rose’s husband, who quickly jumps to his wife’s defense.

“I have built everything I have,” the Vida Tequila owner says — though Rose is quick to finish her sense with a “on the backs of other people” claim.

“Get that f—ing wig off your head,” Barlow shouts at Rose, who was dressed up as Barlow for a cast lunch of 8 Lisas. “You will never be me!”

Former friends Cosby and Marks appear to be on the outs, as well.

“You’re not always the victim,” Cosby says while confronting Marks in one scene before dismissing her defense with a “have a good day.”

“Yeah, you used me for three years, I got the memo,” Marks says in response.

The tension only builds at a dinner where Marks is thrown out of Cosby’s dining room. “You’re a sneaky little snarky little something,” Cosby alleges, then standing up to scream, “Get out of my house!”

“You are the biggest liar in Utah, you big fake,” Cosby can be heard saying at the top of the trailer, seemingly referencing Marks.

Elsewhere in the trailer, Gay goes off on a fellow cast mate, screaming, “Never in a million years after everything we’ve been through did I think that you would reach out to our sworn enemy.”

Marks also gets up in arms when she alleges that one member of the group has been tracking their conversations. “You’re recording us?” she asks. “I am disgusted!”

“I don’t think she has a recoding device on her,” Gay later says. “I’ve watched a lot of television.”

Here is Bravo’s official descriptions of what’s to come:

Lisa Barlow enters the season with strong bonds, but her friendships quickly flip on their head. Meredith and Lisa promise to have each other’s backs, but her relationship with Whitney is permanently threatened after Whitney makes a series of hurtful remarks about Lisa’s status as the group’s villain. Lisa retaliates with claims about the authenticity of Whitney’s business practices. With Jack away on his mission, Lisa is especially hurt when Angie questions how good of a mother she has been.

Heather Gay

Mary Cosby is back full time with her fiery remarks and 2003 Dom Perignon. Mary re-immerses herself in the group, making amends with Whitney and Heather after her name calling, and a deep and unexpected friendship develops with Angie. Although she has a new ally and confidant, Mary and Meredith’s longstanding friendship is on thin ice as they struggle to see eye-to-eye.

Heather Gay is a ride-or-die girl with a new, unexpected allegiance to Lisa. She and Whitney continue to make strides and strengthen their foundation. Tensions with Mary reach an all-time high when they both throw quips about body positivity. Heather introduces her friend Britani to the group, but when Britani repeatedly puts her foot in her mouth, Heather can’t continue to defend her.

Back with props and larger-than-life sunglasses, Angie Katsanevas and husband Shawn put last year’s rumors and nastiness behind them as they celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. She and Mary are thick as thieves, but her friendship with Lisa is unstable as the two go head-to-head over how good a friend they’ve been to one another.

Meredith Marks is excited to celebrate and reaffirm her Jewish faith by having a bat mitzvah, ultimately bringing her and Seth closer together. The bathwater continues to muddy with Whitney because of their overlapping business plans to create bath products. When Meredith repeats something she heard about Whitney’s business, the game of telephone lands her in hot water.

Whitney Rose finds herself at odds with many of the women. When harmful rumors about her jewelry line circle the group, she confronts the women to find the source. As tensions rise, the husbands get roped into the women’s fights, causing things to get heated between Justin and John. Whitney introduces the women to her friend Meili, who quickly gets thrown into the fire when Lisa shares a rumor about her shopping habits.

Bronwyn Newport is passionate about couture, art and a first-class lifestyle. Raised Mormon, Bronwyn was excommunicated from the church when she got pregnant while attending BYU. While raising her daughter, Gwen, as a single mother, she worked in finance before marrying Todd, who’s 26 years her senior. Although she and Lisa have been friends over the years, she quickly learns that her old friend may not support her in the way she wants.
