Why Andy Cohen is the Ideal Choice for Hosting the Next Presidential Debate

I love that we live in a democratic state. I love that we have freedom of the press. Frankly, I love being an American. But what I don’t love is watching a presidential debate full of debauchery. The first 2024 debate between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump has taken place, with an outcome we as a country pretty much expected. I shudder to think that one of the rules that both parties agreed on was the ability to mute a candidate’s mic. As I watched this comedy of errors, I was immediately thrust back into the first time I watched Andy Cohen host a Real Housewives reunion.

In reality, a presidential debate and a Real Housewives reunion aren’t that different from one another. Both have angry, passionate, dramatic characters who fully believe in their causes. Each has some form of storytelling mixed in with a bit of truth. Both a debate and reunion feature false promises and moments of deceit. And that’s when it struck me, like Zeus’ thunderbolt out of the sky. Why isn’t Andy hosting the presidential debate?

Andy hosts New Years

Andy is super capable of hosting a meeting of the minds. The Bravo kingpin has been killing it since his first Real Housewives of Orange County reunion in 2006. Since then, he was elevated to a cohost slot of New Year’s Eve Live, alongside his buddy, Anderson Cooper.. The Chicago native received rave reviews. And it probably doesn’t hurt that he gets a bit inebriated while holding onto the mic.

The man has introduced shots on CNN. For this, he is a hero to many. Andy and his good friend, Anderson, have been ringing in the New Year for the last seven years. And with guests like Enrique Iglesias, Maroon 5, Jonas Brothers, Flo Rida, Miranda Lambert, Darius Rucker, and Rod Stewart, he knows how to deal with all kinds of personalities. The good and the bad. Andy is highly educated and able to compartmentalize his own opinions for the good of the nation.

Andy is great with commanding respect

Even with all his cue cards to keep the flow of conversation going, sometimes Andy loses it. But he has no problem reeling back in the reigns and taking control. This has been proven over and over again, especially when he yells at the women to quieten down. I can imagine that if one of the presidential candidates lost control, Andy would have no problem cutting them off and interjecting. The Bravo executive also isn’t afraid to ask the hard-hitting questions.

Andy was always well aware that some of his questions weren’t always well received. But he does his best to push the guest into answering. This is no easy feat. Just like a politician, Real Housewives stars are getting very good at side stepping a question that they find uncomfortable or don’t have the right answer for. But leave it our own Hardy Boy; Andy will always make sure to get to the bottom of things.

So when it comes to the next debate, maybe this is the guy to get the candidates to answer about universal healthcare, abortion, and if Millennials will even have a social security check to depend on when they hit retirement.

Are there comparisons?

In 2020, after the first horrendous presidential debate, comparisons were made between Trump and the Real Housewives. At the time, we had a president born out of reality TV. Trump became a pop culture icon after The Apprentice, and he treated most of his four years in office ling a three-ring circus. Andy is able to work on all platforms, whether it be a Zoom reunion, in person, or mingling at BravoCon. He is well-versed in chaotic moments. He would bring a decorum.

We’ve had presidents who were movie stars (Ronald Reagan) and reality stars, so my question is, why not Andy? At this rate, why not have Andy host a presidential debate? Because frankly, it can’t get much worse.

Also, don’t forget to go vote on November 5!
