Some family secrets are meant to be told, and Jill Zarin’s daughter just dropped a major one. In a new video, Ally Shapiro broke down the wild story about her biological family and how she learned that her mom used a sperm donor. The story is so puzzling that even Ally got a little tongue-tied trying to recall it.
In the past, the former Real Housewives of New York daughter has opened up about the fact that Jill used a sperm donor to conceive her. Ally spent a good chunk of her life thinking that Jill’s ex-husband, Steven Shapiro, was her biological father. Ally recounted the whole thing during one of those “put your finger down” TikTok videos, and she revealed how her whole concept of a family history came crumbling down, twice.
Blackmail, sperm donors, and huge family secrets
“Put a finger down if, at 21 years old, you found out that your biological father wasn’t your biological father and that one of your family members is blackmailing your family into telling you this,” Ally started.
According to Ally, she discovered some harsh emails where a family member was hounding Jill. The family member felt like she wasn’t being truthful about Ally’s genealogy, which was true. That prompted Jill to admit that they used a sperm donor. From there, Ally was able to meet her biological father along with a handful of long-lost half-siblings. Or, at least she thought.

Ally said that three years after meeting her “biological father,” someone on 23andMe contacted her and said, “Surprise, I’m your father!” It turns out that the sperm bank mixed up the sperm and the person they thought was the sperm donor turned out to be completely unrelated to Ally. For three years, she was talking to some random person thinking it was her dad.
Although this sounds like a plot out of an episode of Maury, it’s Ally’s truth. She had to break the news to the original sperm donor that he indeed, was not the father. Then, she discovered six more half-siblings thanks to her actual biological dad. Wild, right?
So, thanks to a mix-up at the sperm bank and years and years of confusion, Ally finally knows the truth about where she came from. She’ll be hard-pressed to meet someone who can top this story.
