Jenna Lyons is known for her impeccable personal style as well as her influential tenure as J. Crew’s creative director. One lucky shopper at Lyons’ recent New York City stoop sale snagged an item that encapsulates both.

The fashion powerhouse invited guests to shop her previously owned items in Soho on Tuesday, June 4, summoning a massive crowd that wrapped around the city block. TikTok user Janna Hagey (@jannakellyh) was one of many who came out to shop, and ended up going home with a black Balenciaga handbag, unaware that it contained a very special surprise.

In a video that has now garnered 1.4 million views and counting, Hagey shared that after wearing the bag for a few days, she opened a small zipper pocket on the outside of it and discovered a handful of Lyons’ personal momentos — including an old ID badge that appears to be from her early days at J. Crew.

“I could tell it was like her daily driver because it’s quite worn,” Hagey says in the video shared on Saturday, June 15. “… I’m reconfiguring it, putting some stuff in it after I had been using it for a few days, and I open this pocket which I’d never opened until this morning.”

Hagey then reaches in the zipper pocket to remove its contents, showing the camera the variety of items including a mechanical pencil, set of keys, a packet of Advil and a phone number belonging to “Tammy” scrawled on a piece of paper.

“Can we please have a moment for it being filled with stuff?” Hagey says. “Most importantly, Jenna Lyons’ J. Crew ID card. I cannot believe this is in there.”

The card shows Jenna Lyons’ name as well as a photo of her in which she’s notably missing her signature oversized glasses, hinting that the snap was taken during her early years at J. Crew. Lyons joined the retailer in 1990 and climbed the ranks to creative director. She announced her departure from the company in 2017.

After one user commented that Lyons’ might “love to have that back,” Hagey shared that the Real Housewives of New York City star actually reached out to her about the item.

“So I think it’s safe to say that she doesn’t want it back because look at this DM I just got,” she said in a video reply where she shows a screenshot of Lyons’ message to her.

“Oh my god !!!! Thanks for coming !!! I loved this video – I can’t believe that ID !!” the DM reads.

“It’s mine,” Hagey says. “And I’m totally framing it.”
