Iѕaiah Thomаs Sаys Hіs Fаme Dіffused A Sсary Sіtuatіon Involvіng A ‘Kіd’ Wіth An AK-47

Being an NBA player comes with its fair share of perks, and Isaiah Thomas inadvertently proved that was the case after his reputation helped him escape a pretty terrifying situation that unfolded on Memorial Day.

It’s been around a month since Isaiah Thomas was sent home for the season when the Phoenix Suns were eliminated from the playoffs after getting swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round.

At this point, it’s unclear what the future holds for the 35-year-old who joined the team near the end of March to bring his NBA hiatus to an end after two years. He’d failed to find anyone willing to sign him during the 2022-23 campaign and likely only got a shot with the Suns thanks to his impressive play with the G League team he joined a few weeks before he landed a contract with Phoenix.

It sounds like Thomas is hoping to find another home in the NBA based on the message he shared after his most recent stint in the league came to an end, and it appears he headed back to Tacoma, Washington (the city where he was born and raised) to gear up for what would be his 13th season.

On Tuesday, Thomas detailed the scary encounter that seemingly unfolded in Tacoma in a now-deleted tweet where he said he and the people he was with were approached by a “kid” who pointed an AK-47 at them only to back down when he recognized the NBA veteran.

He didn’t specify where the incident took place, but Tacoma seems like the most likely culprit when you consider Thomas also referred to it as “my city” when he posted a picture he took with Lil Wayne when the rapper performed there earlier this month.

This isn’t the first time an NBA player has been able to leverage their star power to escape a similar situation. In 2011, legendary sixth man Lou Williams was approached by an armed robber in Philadelphia and ended up treating the man to a meal at McDonald’s after he backed down upon realizing who his target was.
