Gina Kirschenheiter Speaks Out: “I’m Not Truly Free to Be Friends with Katie Ginella

Gina Kirschenheiter is not having a good season of Real Housewives of Orange County. Sure, her problems pale in comparison to Shannon Beador’s mountain of drama. However, Gina’s relationship troubles, both romantic and friendly, are causing her trouble during Season 18.

Gina came into RHOC this season with a built-in ally – Katie Ginella. Gina was the one who introduced Katie to the group, but their close bond quickly went downhill. Katie accused Heather Dubrow of staging paparazzi photos and, somehow, Gina got stuck in the middle. Both Heather and Katie seem equally mad at Gina for different reasons, making it hard for her to catch a break.

Both Katie and Gina recently spoke about their current dynamic during an interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish. “It definitely affected me and Gina’s friendship in a horrible way,” Katie said. “Gina unfortunately found herself in a tough spot and knew Heather much longer than me, has a deeper connection with Heather, and was like, ‘You know what? I’m gonna side with Heather on this one. Sorry, Katie.’” This is like the platonic version of a love triangle.

Then, Gina echoed Katie’s idea that it’s been hard for her to navigate. “I feel like I’m not really allowed to be friends with Katie — you know what I mean? — in like a way that is completely comfortable,” Gina explained. Like, who is telling you you’re “not allowed” to be friends with someone? Does Fancy Pants really have such a hold on some of these women?

Despite being unsure of her status with Katie, Gina isn’t giving Heather a total pass. “Somehow they were fighting and I took a hit for all that,” Gina said. “I don’t know if everybody sees but I was going through a lot of personal life things this year, and yet I kept getting picked on by everybody and getting a spanking by Heather like every other episode.”

Real Housewives of Orange County continues on Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
