RHOSLC Star Bronwyn Newport Hits Back at Fan’s ‘Dude’ Comment, Slams Transphobia, and Responds to Heather Gay’s Trailer Shade

Bronwyn Newport spoke up on Instagram on Wednesday after seeing that a follower had suspected she was a “dude.”

After receiving the comment, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star shared a screenshot with her online audience, shading the person as transphobic and explaining how trans people should be treated as she also clapped back at Heather Gay, 50, for a comment she made in the recently-released trailer for season five.

“Hi dolls! I [responded] to this absolute moron myself already but quick psa… I have chosen to put myself on Instagram/Twitter and a reality show. I’m fair game. I have a therapist on speed dial and a decent self esteem. Go for it … I will never stand by though and allow for this or any version of it. Transphobia (or anything hinting at it) is disgusting,” Bronwyn wrote in the caption of her August 21 post.

According to Bronwyn, she made the decision to censor the person who asked, “It’s a dude right?” However, she didn’t feel they deserved to have their identity kept private.

In a second post, the RHOSLC newbie added “some info to follow up.”

“That comment absolutely IS transphobic as they used ‘it.’ ‘It is a dude.’ Demeaning and transphobic,” she stated. “That type of language should never be used. Doing so invalidates identity and disregards people’s privacy and is the start to name calling, which often is a prelude to discrimination and violence or at least a breeding ground for that behavior. I won’t stand for it. Or for the idea that trans persons are a joke or the punchline of a joke or an insult.”

Bronwyn continued on with advice to those who may be unsure of how to treat trans people.

“[It starts] with asking their preferred name and pronouns. Always using those. Never dead naming them. Treating them based on their gender identity not their sex assigned at birth,” she shared.

In a third post shared on her Instagram Story, Bronwyn, who was introduced to the group by Lisa Barlow, 49, earlier this year, reacted to Heather saying in the trailer that she “isn’t here to make friends.”

“Yes, I always am. But I go hard (especially with my looks) that can be for you OR against you, your choice,” she warned.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season five premieres on Wednesday, September 18, at 9/8c on Bravo.
